Daema-do Island (Tsushima) is an island located in the middle of the Korea Strait, about 50 km from Busan on the Korean mainland.

It is located closer to Korea than mainland Japan, with a distance of 132 km from Tsushima to Fukuoka, Japan, and about 50 km to Busan, Korea.

Daema-do was a land belonging to Joseon in the past, and is a Korean territory that was forcibly taken away by Japan during the Japanese colonial period.

As evidence, a confidential document sent to the White House by the Joint Intelligence Service (JANIS) of the US Army and Navy states that Tsushima is a Korean island.

However, Daema-do Island is currently under Japanese occupation, and the issue of ownership of Tsushima is controversial between Korea and Japan.

Taken together, Daema-do Island is a Korean territory both historically and under customary international law.
